It is important to obtain evidence from independent witnesses about what happened in the accident. If someone is present in an accident refuses to act as a witness, it is advisable to ask the police if the witness was called to give a deposition. If this is not possible, it is very difficult to do anything, unless the name and address of the witness are known. With this information, they can be called as witnesses in civil lawsuits that may occur.

Witnesses should write down their evidence and keep their original notes, as this can take some time before any claims are settled or legal proceedings are heard. Whatever witnesses may say, the people involved in the accident should make their own written accounts of what happened, including making sketches and taking pictures as fast as possible and keep your original notes.
